Predatory Bird is started when exploring the port of Erothin. The haughty Helene stops you to ask for help with retrieving some bottles of Spirits. According to her several bottles of brandy that belonged to her went over the board during a storm. Apparently some huge bird took them and flew away somewhere to the north (The Eroth Mountains).

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Getting to the Lighthouse[edit | edit source]

After receiving the quest, cross the bridge to the slums area. You can see a tower due north at the top of a large hill, but you can't get at it from there. Instead, jump into the water on the slums side and swim around the promontory to the northeast, hugging the shore. You will come upon a beach with an unoccupied campsite on it.

From the beach, work your way up towards the tower; there are several ledges that you have to climb, and if your acrobatics are low there are some branches you can walk over to get past some of them, but I found at acrobatics 9 there was at least one I couldn't jump. If you are in a similar situation, you may need an acrobatics potion, or drag one of the moveable crates on the beach to use as a jumping point.

Inside the Tower Ruins[edit | edit source]

You will see an "Adventurer" ahead walking between the tower and the ruins of a building. When you head toward the center of the ruins, the stones beneath your feet will break and then the player character falls to the bottom of the pitch black tower. Make sure that the health bar is full, the fall itself will lower the amount of health from character between level 9-11 by half at least.

In case the player wasn't close enough to the crumbling floor, when the mechanic is triggered, you have to reload to a previous save, as it's impossible to jump down the hole to proceed as needed.

There are bats in the tower that will attack and use some feeble shock and fire spells, which can be annoying and distracting. Dispatch them if necessary.

Then climb the stair up the center of the tower. A light source or infravision is needed. About 2/3 of the way up, there is a platform; when approacedh it, the Adventurer earlier met will scream, and falls from above. Loot his corpse for some Fortify Acrobatics potions. You will likely need at least one.

The platform where the Adventurer fell is a dead end. There is another platform across the tower, and a broken plank going about half way across. The jump, like earlier obstables, requires some decent skill in acrobatics. Do save before attempting the jump. In case it wasn't the jump couldn't be made, consume a acrobatic potion looted from the Adventurer's corpse, and unequip armor to increase movement speed.

The rest of the way up is pretty straightforward, follow the staircase, kill whatever bats might still be left, and exit the tower at the very top.

The Lighthouse[edit | edit source]

The bottles are scattered around a very messy gull nest. The bird is, however, not present, thus the bottles can be picked out of the nest without any trouble. A message when all the botles are picked up, that you have what you need and should use the Adventurer's way out. Go back down the stair just a little way, and you will see a short hall branching off before you reach the main stairs. There is a door here that leads to the area you first saw the Adventurer. The hole is somehow patched up and safe to cross.

Go back to town for the reward.

Predatory Bird - NQHelene
Stage End Q Journal Entry
5 A woman approached me in the Erothin harbor. However, she seemed a bit odd to me, which is why I refused to take care of her problem.
6 A woman approached me in the Erothin harbor. According to her, several bottles of brandy that belong to her went over board the ship during a storm. After that, some huge gull apparently took them and flew away in a northern direction. The old woman promised me a reward if I bring her back the bottles.
40 I found all the eight bottles in the gull's nest. Now I should return to Helene. Possibly I can go down the way that the adventurer used to come up here.
45 End Helene thanked me and gave me the reward. Also, I now can buy brandy from her.
